Dawn of new era for ‘cash & carry’

Thursday 4th September marked the dawn of a new era for the ‘cash and carry business’ in Northern Ireland with the official unveiling of Musgrave’s new concept store at its Belfast Branch in Dargan Crescent following a significant investment of £1.3 million.

Hailed as a first in the UK and Ireland, the eagerly awaited development was launched in spectacular fashion with a celebration event involving the iconic figure of Mr Reggae Reggae Sauce – Levi Roots of Dragon’s Den fame.

Having built an uncompromising reputation on quality, value and range through the serving of retailers in Northern Ireland for the last 25 years, the new concept has been created as a genuine one-stop-shop for the modern customer and is predicted to drastically enhance the shopping experience of both the independent retailer and foodservice professional alike.

One of the central figures behind the inspirational concept is General Manager Rodney Nicholl, who led the project from a mere vision to the actual reality of Musgrave Market Street as it is today. The Ballymena man has always been hands-on in his approach and, with a lifetime’s experience in retail, having worked in the family bakery before establishing a flourishing career in wholesale within Stewart’s Supermarkets and subsequently as a General Manager in numerous Tesco stores, he’s got the ideal pedigree to take the revamped Musgrave Cash and Carry at Belfast forward into the future.

RE-WRITTEN THE RULES

Explaining the background to the development of Musgrave Market Street, Rodney said: “Local people have been loyally visiting Musgrave Cash and Carry for the last 25 years, but very little had changed in that time in terms of how we did business, yet the environment in which we all work and live has most definitely changed. Our successful business model was traditionally perceived as a ‘pile it high’ cash and carry, known for its commitment to the lowest prices and an extensive range.”
