Musgrave MarketPlace, a leading wholesale supplier to foodservice, retail and SME businesses, has announced a £1m investment to transform its Pennyburn branch in Derry~Londonderry into a state-of-the-art food emporium.

The upgrade forms part of a £11.4m investment to date in the Musgrave MarketPlace brand over the last four years as it continues to redefine wholesale on the island of Ireland.

This new-look branch currently employs over 40 colleagues and the opening coincides with the 25th anniversary celebration of Musgrave MarketPlace in the city.

Located on the Buncrana Road, the new look branch has been designed with the customer in mind and will serve local hotels, bars, restaurants and retailers in the North West.

As well as offering value, great service and a broader product range, the newly revamped branch will include:

  • The introduction of over 200 new products, in addition to the existing range of over 10,000 products.
  • A new, dedicated alcohol area with an enhanced product range.
  • Low power eco refrigeration and LED lighting, boosting the environmentally friendly credentials of the store.

“We are proud to launch our Food Emporium at Musgrave MarketPlace Pennyburn and I can think of no better way to celebrate 25 years of business in the North West,” said Emir Sheppard, general manager of Musgrave MarketPlace.

“Our investment into the local community has improved the overall shopping experience for our foodservice and retail customers. This renovation is a testament to the growing success of the business, and we look forward to bringing a new store layout, a greater range of products and the advice of in-store experts to our customers. We look forward to welcoming customers old and new into branch.”

Michael McCormack, managing director, Musgrave Northern Ireland, said: “This investment of £1m marks a significant day in not only our history as a leading wholesale supplier to foodservice, retail and SME businesses across Northern Ireland and beyond, but the local community too.

“It represents a monumental change to our business, transforming the Pennyburn Musgrave MarketPlace branch into a state-of-the-art Food Emporium, forever leaving behind the outdated perception that we are a cash-and-carry business. This investment will provide our customers with a new and improved shopping experience. We look forward to welcoming our customers and our new employees to our new look branch in the coming days and weeks.”
