Deadline approaching for Covid-19 support fund

Victor Chestnutt, president, UFU.

Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) is encouraging members to check if they are eligible for the £21.4m coronavirus (Covid-19) support scheme which is available for farm businesses affected by the pandemic.

“Many of our farmers have been hit hard by Covid-19 and are continuing to feel the impact of the virus,” said Victor Chestnutt, president, UFU. “The support fund is there for farmers who need extra support to sustain their businesses during this difficult time and successful applicants will recover some of the losses incurred because of market disruptions caused by Covid-19.

“We urge members to take time to check out the eligibility criteria as we do not want anyone to miss out on extra support that they could potentially be entitled to. If farmers have already been contacted by DAERA to say they are eligible or if they think they are eligible, contact DAERA immediately. Particularly dairy, beef and sheep farmers as there is only one week left to apply for these elements of the scheme.”

The deadline for applications from the dairy, beef and sheep sectors is September 23 and September 30 for the potato sector.

Farmers need to apply online (via their DAERA online services account) or they can contact their local DVO for assistance.
